Tragic incident unfolds during the nomination submission process in Chopra, North Dinajpur, as violence erupts.
Three individuals sustain bullet injuries and are rushed to Islampur Sub District Hospital, where one victim tragically succumbs to their injuries. The candidates from the Leftist and Congress parties were marching to submit their nominations when they were allegedly ambushed, resulting in the sudden firing on the procession.
Opposition candidates, who had gathered to file their nominations together at the BDO (Block Development Officer) office, found themselves under attack and scattered in the chaos. Accusations point towards miscreants affiliated with the ruling Trinamool Congress, claiming that they intentionally targeted the procession and initiated the gunfire. However, the Trinamool camp vehemently denies these allegations.
A survivor lying on a hospital bed recounts the harrowing incident, stating that the group was heading towards the BDO office when they were attacked by Trinamool supporters. He further explains that they were being prevented from submitting their nominations, and his nephew was also shot during the incident. Additionally, he mentions that the attackers used weapons to beat them.
The local authorities have initiated a police investigation into the matter to ascertain the facts and bring the culprits to justice.
